Sky’s the limit for eVTOL racer next-gen battery design and prototype agreement
Brisbane technology company AnteoTech, which develops patented surface-chemistry technologies, has signed a next-generation battery design and prototyping agreement with electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing (eVTOL) manned flying car design and racing developer, Airspeeder.
The agreement positions AnteoTech as the foundational Next Generation Battery Development Consortium lead for Airspeeder Team Australia.
In negotiations with specialised cathode technology companies with cell manufacturing capabilities in the United States (US), AnteoTech expects the Airspeeder Team Australia eVTOL testing ground to demonstrate the value proposition and performance of its Ultranode 95 batteries.
The company said Ultranode uses pure micron-sized silicon powders combined with proprietary formulation and additive technologies to control silicon expansion and preserve structures, enabling more than 1,000 cycles at 80% capacity retention when 70% silicon content is used.
“Ultranode uses cost-effective silicon available at commercial scale globally from sources, avoiding complex or hazardous processing, reducing cost, supporting global supply chain independence, and enabling high-silicon anodes to become commercially viable for use in EV, eVTOL and other high-performance applications.”
Anteotech Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Merrill Gray said the agreement is an exciting ‘ground floor’ opportunity for AnteoTech to raise market awareness of Ultranode 95’s potential.
“It will allow us to work with our technology collaborators and bring significant global know-how and expertise, as we lead an overall next generation battery design consortium,” Gray said.
Preparing for its international Airspeeder series race in November 2026, Airspeeder’s eVTOLs are currently powered by off-the shelf batteries and conventional battery chemistries.
The collaboration with Anteotech will improve battery cell chemistry and design, alongside other partners, Dell Technologies, which is powering simulation, digital twin and telemetry, and NVIDIA and Intel, that are involved in rapid design iteration and performance development.
Airspeeder Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder Matt Pearson said he was excited to see what AnteoTech and its collaborators can bring to improve the eVTOL’s battery performance “and further enhance the excitement people have around Airspeeder”.
