SAJ launches residential battery energy storage system in Australia

Combining a solar inverter, battery storage, backup power, energy management system (EMS), and electric vehicle (EV) charger in a single integrated unit, the EK70 residential battery supports whole-house backup (63A bypass), one-click diagnosis and automatic current transfers (CT) correction via the SAJ elekeeper app.

The EK70 has 314Ah cells and per-module DC-DC optimers allowing packs from different batches to be later without impacting performance.

The app assists in reducing commissioning errors and time, while the Wireless-Pro Meter enables stable, long-range communication for fast, hassle-free installation. The EK70 carries a 10-year warranty rated at 10,000 battery cycles.

The HS5 EK series ships with the recently launched elekeeper 5.0 EMS, which supports dynamic tariffs, negative pricing and smart scheduling, and connects with virtual power plant (VPP) and dynamic tariff platforms in use in Australia, including Amber, Evergen, GloBird Energy, Origin, Powston, and Synergy.

Five artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities cover the full system lifecycle. AI Designer handles PV layout, equipment matching and return-on-investment modelling for installers and AI Care lets installers verify wiring and scan battery health remotely and action fixes with a single click.

AI Saving optimises energy use against forecast generation, household demand and electricity prices, and is already running across more than 10,000 residential and C&I sites worldwide, SAJ said.

“AI Edge keeps optimisation running locally if connectivity drops; and AI Keeper provides natural-language assistance for homeowners and energy professionals.

Safety features include full-coverage battery temperature sensors, cell insulation boards, an integrated aerosol fire suppression system and battery pressure relief valves.

SAJ’s AI Saving, AI Keeper, AI Edge and AI Designer functions manage charging, backup reserve, tariff optimisation and system design.

The battery’s launch coincided with an announcement that online electrical wholesalers Tradezone and Supply Partners is now a wholesale partners with SAJ, joining One Stop Warehouse, which has signed a 1 GWh deal in early 2026.

At a launch event held in Brisbane, SAJ also previewed the HS5 EK90, the next model in the series, which builds on the EK70 platform with AI-enabled arc fault circuit interpreter (AFCI), on-device edge AI, vehicle-to-grid (V2G) and vehicle-to-home (V2H) capability, a feature to be introduced in future, and a battery design certified to UL 9540A.

The EK90 is rated at 12,000 battery cycles with a 15-year warranty and is expected to arrive in Australia later in 2026.
