Solar module recycling based on oxidative liquefaction Researchers have developed a low-temperature, hydrogen peroxide-mediated oxidative liquefaction process to recycle end-of-life solar panels by selectively breaking down polymers into useful chemical feedstocks. The proposed method reduces energy consumption, eliminates hazardous solvents, and minimises landfill waste compared to traditional recycling techniques.

Australia’s fuel security hedge is electrification. It will only work with long-duration storage Recent disruptions to the Strait of Hormuz are a reminder of a simple fact: energy markets reprice risk quickly. In Australia, this pain is initially felt in transport and parts of industry that rely on imported liquid fuels, with prices set offshore and supply chains we do not control. Reducing that risk exposure depends on accelerating electrification of those sectors, where it is economic to do so.

UNSW, DAS Solar build tunnel back-contact solar cell with 27% efficiency, lower silver content Researchers from UNSW and DAS Solar developed a zero-busbar metal grid optimisation approach for tunnel oxide passivated back-contact (TBC) silicon solar cells, enabling more efficient current collection at the rear surface while reducing silver consumption by 3–4 mg/W. The first TBC cells produced in mass manufacturing using this technique have demonstrated efficiencies exceeding 27%.
