Dean Nalder appointed Chair of AVESS Energy

Vanadium flow battery company AVESS Energy is pleased to announce the appointment of former State Government Cabinet Minister and current Non-Executive Director, Dean Nalder as Chair, effective 19 June 2026.

Mr. Nalder brings deep government and commercial expertise to the role of Chair, with a distinguished career as a Minister in the Government of Western Australia, and as a senior executive across sectors including finance, energy, transport, logistics and agriculture.

Mr. Nalder served as a member of the Western Australian Parliament from 2013 to 2021, holding a range of senior positions, including the ministerial portfolios of Transport, Finance and Agriculture, as well as Chair of the Public Accounts Committee.

During his 18 years at ANZ, Mr. Nalder served in a range of executive roles, culminating in his appointment to the Chief Executive Group. Later serving as Australia Post’s State Commercial Manager, Mr. Nalder also worked with Hancock Prospecting in media and public relations.

An experienced Non-Executive Director, Mr. Nalder serves on the boards of DevelopmentWA, The Perth Mint, ReefCraft and the South Fremantle Football Club.

The Board believes Mr. Nalder’s experience in navigating complex regulatory environments, driving strategic outcomes and engaging key government, industry and community stakeholders will prove invaluable as AVESS enters its next growth phase.

Commenting on Mr. Nalder’s appointment as Chair and what he will bring to the Board, AVESS Managing Director Mr Yu said:

“We are delighted to welcome Dean as Chair. His deep government and industry experience, combined with his ability to guide organisations through transformation, will be essential as we execute our growth strategy and pursue new opportunities.

“Dean’s appointment marks an exciting new chapter for the business as we advance the Quad Clean Energy Supply Chain Diversification (QCESCD) Program and present a uniquely Australian submission for the Kalgoorlie Vanadium Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) EOI process. We look forward to working with Dean as we build on this momentum,” said Mr. Yu.

Commenting on his elevation to Chair and Mr Yu’s contribution to AVESS, Mr. Nalder said:

“I am pleased to be appointed Chair at an exciting stage of AVESS’ development. The Company has a strong foundation, and I look forward to working closely with the Board and management team to support its strategic objectives and create long-term shareholder value.

“With a refreshed Board and a strengthened executive team, the Company is well placed to capture new opportunities in local and offshore markets. I also want to recognise Young’s contribution in building AVESS since 2020.

“I look forward to continuing to work with him in his capacity as Managing Director as we drive the adoption of vanadium flow batteries and expand the business in Australia and globally,” said Mr. Nalder.

As Chair, Mr. Nalder will lead the Board’s governance and strategic oversight functions, supporting management as the Company advances its growth initiatives. Mr. Yu, who has served as Chair since 2020, will remain Managing Director.
