Gridwiz Australia and LKA Developments partner to establish a 100 MWh battery energy storage portfolio

Gridwiz Australia Pty Ltd, the Australian subsidiary of Korea-listed energy software company Gridwiz, and locally based LKA Developments Pty Ltd have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to jointly develop a 100MWh battery energy storage system portfolio within Australia’s National Electricity Market.

The partnership will deliver five 20 MWh BESS sites through a portfolio-based development model designed to improve development efficiency, strengthen project economics, and support a diversified risk profile across multiple locations.

Defined Roles and Responsibilities

  • LKAD will lead project development activities, including site origination, permitting, EPC management, and ongoing operations and maintenance (O&M).
  • Gridwiz will contribute its energy platform and data capabilities to support investment and financing activities, demand response (DR) business model development, and operational optimisation.

Development Timeline

Ahead of the broader portfolio rollout, the partners are progressing a 20MWh pilot project targeting Ready-to-Build (RTB) status in 2026, with commercial operation expected in the first half of 2027. The wider 100 MWh portfolio is anticipated to be fully operational by late 2027.

Market Context

The announcement reflects the continued growth and maturity of Australia’s BESS sector, particularly in the mid-sized storage market, where scalable and repeatable deployment models are becoming increasingly important. It also highlights the growing integration of software-driven optimisation, demand response capability, and flexible energy infrastructure as key components of the energy transition.

As investment in battery storage accelerates across Australia, partnerships that combine local development expertise with advanced energy management technology are expected to play an increasingly important role in supporting grid reliability, renewable integration, and long-term energy resilience.
