Zeta secures site for Chuwar BESS project
Located approximately 6 km north of the Ipswich CBD, the Chuwar site is situated in close proximity to key transmission infrastructure serving Ipswich and the greater Brisbane region. The location was identified through Zeta’s project origination process as being well suited to a utility-scale battery energy storage facility, with strong underlying electricity network characteristics and long-term development potential. The proposed project is expected to support the region’s growing energy needs and Australia’s transition to a cleaner, more reliable electricity system.
The project forms part of Zeta’s growing pipeline of BESS and hybrid renewable energy developments across the National Electricity Market (NEM), supporting the transition to a more reliable, resilient and sustainable Australian electricity system.
With the site now secured, Zeta is progressing the project through detailed technical studies, environmental assessments, planning and stakeholder engagement. Zeta is working closely with its specialist advisors, Ipswich City Council, government agencies, neighbouring landowners and the broader community. Submission of a Development Application is currently targeted for the end of 2026.
“Securing the Chuwar site represents a significant milestone for Zeta Energy Group and an important first step in delivering our long-term development strategy,” said Steven Wylie, Chief Executive Officer.
“The project reflects our disciplined approach to identifying high-quality development opportunities with strong underlying fundamentals. We look forward to working closely with the local community, Council and our stakeholders as we progress the project through planning and development.”
Zeta will continue to provide updates as the Chuwar BESS project progresses through the planning, assessment and development phases.
