9 GWh sodium-ion battery deal signed by Alsym Energy and ERITY
Perth-headquartered resources sector consulting firm ERITY has signed a 9 GWh sodium-ion battery energy storage system (BESS) deal with United States-headquartered Na-ion battery developer Alsym Energy.
The strategic relationship agreement (SRA) establishes a formal framework to jointly identify, pursue, and deliver advanced BESS across multiple mining use-cases, including critical mineral extraction, and artificial intelligence (AI)-powered mobile data centres.
The agreement includes developing and deploying 24×7, high reliability, non-flammable micro-grid energy for mining operations paired with renewable energy or other sources, with a focus on powering ventilation systems for subsurface operations.
Critical mineral extraction and processing would be supported by providing robust, low-emission power to remote and demanding mining operations.
AI mobile data centres for mining would be deployed to deliver reliable, high performance energy for an onsite AI data centre which process critical geologic information in real time.
Alsym Energy’s Na-Series (sodium-ion battery technology platform) are ideally suited to supporting transformation of mining and hauling equipment to electric alternatives.
Lastly, mobile BESS, as part of the agreement, would employ Alsym Energy Na-Series batteries for their ability to safely store and transport at 0% state of charge, unlocking flexibility as required.

In the longer term, potential areas of development include electric vehicle charging infrastructure, commercial and industrial applications and utility-scale energy projects.
ERITY Chief Operating Officer Manny Claasens said by integrating Alsym Energy’s thermally stable, high-performance storage solutions into mining operations, ERITY has an opportunity to help reduce operational costs, enhance energy resilience, and support improved safety and sustainability outcomes across the energy transition landscape.
Alsym Energy’s technology is slated for deployment across existing operations of Perth-based companies, graphite and battery anode material producer Volt Resources and critical and battery mineral mining company Resource Mineral International.
It will also be deployed at the mining company’s international projects in Tanzania, Saudi Arabia, Finland and the United States, and in BESS projects for non-affiliated mining companies.
Alsym Energy Chief Executive Officer Mukesh Chatter said ERITY’s extensive reach in critical sectors – from data centres to global mineral extraction in key regions like Australia, Africa and Middle East – “provides the perfect platform to deploy the company’s non-flammable sodium-ion technology across an energy-intensive industries.”
“And in high temperature regions who are eager to lead the energy transition,” Chatter said.
Volt Resources Limited and Resource Minerals International Limited Chairman Asimwe Kabunga said non-flammable sodium-ion battery technology presents a compelling opportunity, particularly for remote operations where energy resilience is critical.
“We see significant potential for this technology across a number of projects within our portfolio. The ability to combine innovative battery technology with practical deployment expertise creates a strong platform for supporting the next generation of mining projects,” Kabunga said.
