China-headquartered battery energy storage system (BESS) technology company Hithium has signed an agreement with Spain-headquartered Naturgy Group’s renewable energy arm Global Power Generation (GPG), to supply a 421 MWh BESS in Queensland.

Located approximately 300 kilometres north of Brisbane, the Fraser Coast BESS will be part of the 330 MW Fraser Coast Hybrid solar-plus-storage project, where construction began in July 2026.

The AC-coupled energy storage project will connect to the 33 kV switchgear of the adjacent solar farm, allowing the system to charge from both the solar plant and the electricity grid.

Hithium will deliver 84 liquid-cooled battery energy storage system units, together with system design, manufacturing, factory acceptance testing, delivery, commissioning, technical support and training.

The agreement marks Hithium’s first utility-scale collaboration with GPG.
