The Clean Energy Investor Group (CEIG) said Merzian brings almost two decades of experience in the climate and energy sectors. Before joining CEIG, he was the International Director at the Smart Energy Council expanding the industry groups engagement into the Asia-Pacific.
As the inaugural Climate & Energy Program Director at the Australia Institute think tank, he led influential research into national electricity and transport policy. He also spent a decade with the Australian government, working on domestic and international energy policy, including as a lead negotiator to the UN climate conference.
His strategic vision and leadership have been instrumental in driving policy reforms and fostering public support for sustainable energy solutions. He will be invaluable in guiding CEIG’s strategic direction and expanding its impact in the clean energy investment landscape.
“We are thrilled to welcome Richie Merzian as the new CEO of CEIG,” said John Martin, Chair of the CEIG Board. “Richie’s exceptional leadership skills, deep expertise in climate and energy policy, and passion for sustainable development make him the ideal person to lead CEIG into its next phase of growth. We are confident that under his guidance, CEIG will continue to drive innovation and investment in the clean energy sector.”
“I am honoured to join CEIG at such a pivotal time for the clean energy industry,” Merzian said. “CEIG plays a critical role in mobilising investment and fostering innovation in clean energy. I look forward to working with the talented team at CEIG and our members and partners to accelerate and scale the transition to a clean energy future.”
CEIG would also like to thank Marilyne Crestias for her exceptional service as Interim CEO. Marilyne will continue to contribute to CEIG as the Head of Policy and Advocacy.
CEIG is committed to driving the transformation of the energy sector through supporting strategic investments, policy advocacy, and collaborative initiatives. With Richie Merzian at the helm, CEIG is poised to further its mission of advancing clean energy solutions and achieving a low-carbon future.
