Marinus Link Pty Ltd (MLPL) and interested stakeholders have been invited to respond as part of the independent regulatory process, which will ensure that the final decision maximises Marinus Link’s benefit to electricity consumers through prudent and efficient expenditure.
MLPL will provide a formal response to the supplementary draft decision with further information, clarity, and reasoning on the focus consultation areas identified by the Australian Energy Regulator (AER).
“We welcome this open deliberative process and the opportunity to respond. We also encourage others to do so,” MLPL CEO Stephanie McGregor said.
“Differences between revenue proposals and the AER’s draft decisions are a normal and expected part of regulatory scrutiny and consultation. We will work with the AER and stakeholders to support the best outcome for consumers,” Ms McGregor said.
The AER’s initial draft decision, released in May 2025, accepted MLPL’s forecast cable and converter technology expenditure as prudent and efficient, acknowledging the thorough and competitive procurement process.
The supplementary draft decision considers updated cost information from the final major ‘Balance of Works’ contract and other now more developed cost categories as part of MLPL’s revised revenue proposal.
“The AER has now also accepted our market-tested costs for the major civils and construction component of the project. Again, we thank them for acknowledging our high standard of procurement.”
“We will provide further evidence on the areas identified by the AER to support a robust final decision, including our proposed risk allowance and support activities costs.”
