The battery is due to be operational later this year and will provide vital flexibility to support Australia’s clean energy transition whilst increasing grid resilience.

Habitat Energy will use its Evolve platform, which features advanced AI-powered price forecasting and optimisation software overseen 24/7 by expert human traders, to provide a fully integrated trading service to Epic Energy. This purpose-built solution enables Habitat Energy to maximise value from large-scale battery storage and renewable energy assets.

The collaboration extends the existing partnership between Habitat Energy and Epic Energy, with Habitat Energy already providing optimisation services to the company’s adjacent 39 MWp Stage 2 Mannum Solar Farm.

Habitat Energy Australia Managing Director Greg Billman said “We are delighted Epic Energy have chosen to extend their partnership with us. We look forward to optimising the Mannum BESS alongside the Stage 2 Mannum Solar Farm and delivering the battery’s full revenue potential across wholesale energy and ancillary service markets. Innovative collaborations like this are key to achieving a more sustainable energy future, and we look forward to rolling out further innovations, to support a growing and dynamic Australian BESS industry.”

The battery demonstrates Epic Energy’s commitment to renewable energy and will play a key role in supporting the South Australian electricity market and enhancing energy security by absorbing excess energy when supply exceeds demand and storing it for use when additional supply is needed.

Epic Energy Chief Executive Officer Clive D’Cruz said Battery storage has a vital role to play in the energy transition, shifting renewable generation to times of day when it is most needed and enhancing energy security. We’re pleased to have Habitat Energy as a trusted partner, working to maximise the return on investment from our Mannum BESS and deliver value to our business, the local Mannum community and customers as we continue to grow our renewables portfolio.”

Habitat Energy is a global leader in the trading and optimisation of battery storage and renewable energy assets with over 3.3 GW of assets under contract across Australia, the UK and the US.

Based in Melbourne, the company’s fast-expanding Australian business provides full service, revenue optimisation services for large-scale standalone storage and renewables, as well as hybrid systems, combining advanced AI-powered algorithmic forecasting and trading with a team of local data scientists, software engineers and experienced traders overseeing optimisation, bidding and dispatch.

The company was recently appointed by Eku Energy to optimise its 250 MW/500 MWh Williamsdale BESS, which is due to be operational in 2026 and forms part of the ACT government’s Big Canberra Battery project.
