Under round four funding, WA public schools were invited to apply for funds to install solar photovoltaic systems and light-emitting diode (LED) lighting upgrades.
“This is an important program and I’m pleased another 117 public schools will be able to reduce their energy use,” Buti said.
“It’s also a great opportunity for students to learn about the benefits of renewable energy. We continue to invest in clean energy solutions and work toward a more sustainable future.”
Schools from across the state applied, with 45 regional schools and 72 metropolitan schools announced as successful recipients.
The investment will increase the number of WA public schools to receive a contribution from the $44.6 million Schools Clean Energy Technology Fund to 373 over four years.
The initiative also expands on the existing Solar Schools program, Synergy’s Virtual Power Plant Project, and general maintenance replacement of lighting in schools with LED.
The program aligns with the Western Australian Climate Policy.
WA Energy Minister Reece Whitby said “installing rooftop solar and upgrading to LED lighting are some of the easiest ways Western Australians can reduce their energy use and save on their power bills.”
“This fund hasn’t just helped lower costs and emissions for our State’s public schools – it’s also made them an example that households and businesses throughout WA can follow.”
