Funded by the South Australian government and delivered through the Industry Capability Network of South Australia (ICN SA), South Australia’s Hydrogen Industry Supplier Directory lists hundreds of firms that have both an interest in and the capability to provide services as part of the complex hydrogen supply chain coming online.
The directory was compiled through a formal expression of interest process earlier this year, with more than 260 businesses outlining their ability to contribute to the production, storage, transport and distribution of renewable energy and hydrogen, as well as downstream applications such as the manufacture of green iron.
It is matched with a Statement of Capacity: Hydrogen Supply Chain Mapping South Australia. Presenting the specific capabilities of local businesses – such as ‘water desalination for hydrogen production’ and the ‘manufacture of pipe fittings’ will allow the state government to appropriately match South Australian businesses and workers with opportunities arising through the Hydrogen Jobs Plan and other hydrogen projects.
Importantly, details like business size, compliance, and whether a business is Aboriginal-owned are also published – factors that will help a project owner determine a business’s suitability for a particular body of work.
From 2025 onwards, the South Australian government’s investment of more than half a billion dollars into green hydrogen is expected to create thousands of jobs across renewable energy projects, the development of a hydrogen export industry, and a production and storage facility near Whyalla.
Green hydrogen is a clean and reliable energy source that will reduce the state’s reliance on electricity powered by fossil fuels. Local production will create new opportunities for South Australia’s heavy industry sector to use hydrogen to decarbonise its processes and become more competitive against imported goods.
Currently, more than 70% of South Australia’s energy already comes from renewable sources. Green hydrogen will help the state to achieve its goals of 100% net renewables by 2030 and net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
Businesses not currently listed on the directory are invited to contact ICN SA to be considered for inclusion in future updates of these documents and project opportunities.
