Aaron Johnstone, who has spent nearly 30 years helping shape public policy and collaborating with industry, has started as Queensland’s Renewable Energy Jobs Advocate, working to advise government on how to create new employment in the energy sector throughout the Sunshine State.
Johnstone will work with regional communities and stakeholders, industry and First Nations peoples as Queensland continues its transformation into a renewable energy powerhouse.
His role will include providing strategic advice to Government and key stakeholders, engaging with key energy infrastructure proponents, and promoting new job opportunities in regional Queensland. Additionally, Johnstone will advise on the benefits renewable energy projects can deliver, particularly for regional Queensland.
Johnstone has held roles with Cement Concrete and Aggregates Australia, Australian Industry Group and is the founder of Interact Policy and Industry Solutions.
His appointment is a key commitment under the Queensland Energy and Jobs Plan.
Queensland Energy Minister Mick de Brenni said “Aaron’s appointment represents another significant step in our Queensland Energy and Jobs Plan. He will work closely with industry, unions, councils and First Nations communities to support employment, the development of local workforce, and encourage investment and community support as Queensland continues on its transition to renewables.”
“I’d like to congratulate Aaron on his appointment of this landmark role for jobs in our clean energy sector and look forward to working with him as the Miles Labor Government progresses Queensland’s energy transformation.”
Johnstone said “I am delighted to be appointed as the first Queensland Renewable Energy Jobs Advocate. I am passionate about the importance of a fair and prosperous transition for Queensland in its renewable energy journey, and in ensuring benefits are shared across workers, communities, and First Nations’ groups.”
“I look forward to working collaboratively with everyone involved in navigating this transition, and in making an important contribution to the State’s renewable energy future.”
