The Transmission Line Flying Squad is an agile and responsive team with significant industry knowledge tasked to work with clients, finding collaborative solutions for building of new or strengthening existing transmission networks.
Zinfra General Manager Projects and Infrastructure, Tim Byrne, stood up the Flying Squad to focus on new transmission line construction, refurb and replacement projects, with the capacity to deliver up to 100-150km of new transmission line year on year.
“This particular skill set is limited in Australia, and with the renewables energy sector booming, we need to ensure we are growing our capability and capacity to respond to customer needs, keeping Australians connected through transmission,” Mr Byrne said.
“This squad is a key step for Zinfra, in responding to customer needs, whether it is to get transmission lines back up and running as quickly as possible after an emergency event, looking at cost effective refurbishments or building of new lines.”
“We are always looking at innovative ways we can improve traditional delivery of transmission line services and working with industry representatives to put smarter processes in place.”
The Flying Squad is made up of Operations Managers, Project Managers, Construction Managers, Engineers, Design Management, Procurement Specialists, Estimators and Lineworkers, all working together to ensure we have the capability and capacity to carry out transmission line work in all types of environments, greenfield, brownfield and live line.
“Utilising Zinfra’s in-house expertise and working closely with our delivery partners, we are expecting to deliver better results for customers thanks to the collaborative solutions of the Flying Squad,” Mr Byrne said.
“The energy industry is booming with new renewable energy infrastructure ready to be connected to the grid, The Flying Squad is an initiative to ensure Zinfra is ready to hit the ground to get this infrastructure connected and powering Australian communities as quickly as possible.”
Zinfra continues to grow its power transmission and distribution services capability with the aim of establishing further agile response teams in the near future.
