Members of the Australian Electric Vehicle Association (AEVA) can ‘phone an EV friend’ using the help line for any matters relating to electric vehicle (EV) charging, setting up charging apps, membership queries, or simply tips for getting a stuck charging cable out of an EV.
“This is something that EV drivers have wanted for a long time – help from those who know. We modelled this service on a similar service used by our colleagues at Norsk Elbilforening – the Norwegian Electric Vehicle Association”, said AEVA National President, Dr Chris Jones.
The help line is staffed by a pool of experienced AEVA volunteers, on behalf of the Association’s members.
“We’re not roadside assistance and we’re definitely not triple-zero. But, if you have an EV problem we’ll do our level best to help, as we always have,” Jones said. “We aim to give new EV drivers and riders confidence that should they encounter difficulties navigating common issues, someone has their back.”
The AEVA seeks to foster a helpful, positive and informative community of knowledgeable people who can lend a hand.
“Most of our members have called another member at some stage with a common question,” Jones added.
The helpline is available from 9am to 11pm (Eastern time) on weekdays and 8am to 11pm on weekends, providing wide coverage across all Australian time zones. Standard 1300 call costs apply. The phone number is published on the website once members log in.
