AGL offers three hours of free electricity usage daily as part of new energy plan in SA

The plan, initially available to customers in South Australia, provides free electricity usage from 10am to 1pm daily. It’s designed for customers with a smart meter and those who can shift their consumption to the free usage window. It offers a great way to lower the cost of energy from the grid, for customers who do not yet have a rooftop solar system. This could be particularly useful for renters, or people with shared or unsuitable roofs for solar.

The Three for Free plan is part of the recently announced program, AGL Community Power. AGL is working to find innovative ways to share the benefits of the energy transition, including with those who cannot purchase solar or batteries, or who may be locked out due to barriers such as home ownership.

AGL’s Chief Customer Officer Jo Egan said the Three for Free plan is designed to provide customers with an option that gives them more flexibility in how they manage their energy usage.

“The Three for Free plan is about giving more Australians the opportunity to access similar benefits as someone who has solar that is self-consuming in the middle of the day. Customers on the plan who shift their energy use can create savings on their electricity bills, they don’t need to install solar panels to reduce their energy usage costs during daylight hours,” Ms Egan said.

“We are already working to help our customers electrify, and this new plan complements this. While we transition towards more renewable energy sources backed by firming, we know that not every customer can purchase and access consumer energy resources like solar panels. This is why we are implementing products like the Three for Free plan and supporting innovative virtual power plants (VPPs) like South Australia’s VPP we acquired from Tesla.”
