The Australian mobility clubs (NRMA, RACV, RACQ, RAC, RAA and RACT) through their wholly owned company Australian Motoring Services (AMS) has stepped up its shareholding position in Chargefox to acquire the remaining shares and become the sole owner of the business.

Chargefox, Australia’s largest EV charging network, will continue to operate as usual and will refocus with renewed support on its ambitious target to have more than 5,000 EV plugs across the country by the end of 2025, providing greater EV charging options and reducing emissions across the country.

Commenting on the new ownership arrangement, Chargefox CEO Marty Andrews acknowledged the benefits for both EV drivers and the environment.

“The accelerated rollout of Chargefox’s network has broad-reaching benefits, as it allows for further local and long-distance EV travel, giving more Australian EV drivers better access to world-leading charging technology right across the country. The backing of such a strong, longstanding partner and their investment will help us to deliver on this,” he said.

To date, Chargefox has powered more than 14 million carbon-free kilometres, and has abated more than 4,000 tonnes of CO2, equivalent to more than 2 million kilos of coal burnt.

Accelerating the growing network gives EV drivers greater confidence that they’re never too far from a charging station.

AMS group CEO Michael Reed also acknowledged the enormous environment benefits associated with Chargefox’s accelerated growth, and the flow on to members of the Mobility Clubs and the broader community.

“We are proud to play a role in supporting Chargefox’s growth. We share a mutual goal to reduce road transport emissions to zero and support the growing community of EV drivers across the country,” he said.

“We continue to see a large number of EV’s on the road and the number of Australians who are considering purchasing an EV in the future is growing year on year.

“Combined, we’ll have greater power and opportunity to deliver infrastructure that Australians need to increase the uptake of EVs and therefore reduce road transport emissions.”
