Renewable electricity powers all 452 Bunnings Group sites including Bunnings stores, trade centres, distribution centres, store support locations, Tool Kit Depot stores and Bunnings owned Beaumont Tiles stores.
Bunnings Managing Director Michael Schneider said, “In 2020, we announced our plans to source 100% renewable electricity by 2025 and our team has been working hard to ensure we delivered on this promise.
“Each of our stores are different and operate in their own unique local community, but it’s great to see across our operations, we are able to deliver a positive outcome for our team, customers and the environment.
“We recognise our role as a business in reducing carbon emissions and the work doesn’t stop here. We look forward to continuing toward our next target of net zero Scope 1 and 2 emissions by the end of the decade.”
As well as installing LED lighting in stores, Bunnings has installed onsite solar photovoltaic systems at 163 sites which generate 30% of each stores total electricity needs from sunlight. The business plans to further expand the rollout across its store network.
Bunnings has also secured offsite power purchase agreements with large scale solar farms, windfarms and hydro power stations.
This includes agrisolar projects, showcasing how renewable energy can co-exist with agriculture, provide farmers with additional income and support regional communities through ongoing local jobs for project maintenance.
Across the business, Bunnings has introduced instore sustainability initiatives to support community members who are looking to be more environmentally conscious. These include a battery recycling program at all stores and the plastic plant pot recycling at selected stores which redirects items from landfill.
Bunnings is also trialling electric vehicle (EV) charging stations for customers at selected sites in Victoria, New South Wales, Western Australia and New Zealand.
