“William brings almost 15 years of experience driving advocacy and shaping policy across multiple industry sectors, including from within clean energy organisations, and brings a firm understanding of the challenges facing the sector,” said Mr Rolfe.

“Between now and 2030 is a critical period for the sector and the Board is committed to ensuring we focus on the delivery of the energy transition and positioning the organisation to meet the needs of its members,” he said.

The Chief Policy and Impact Officer will oversee the CEC’s policy and advocacy team ensuring fair outcomes for regional communities and a competitive environment for new energy construction, transmission and delivery.

“I’m proud to be leading a team that will work with members, governments, industry and communities to deliver outcomes at such a critical juncture,” Mr Churchill said.

“Electricity supply is a national issue for all households and businesses and building out this essential infrastructure is a national priority. From rooftop solar and home batteries to utility scale generation and transmission, it is critical we continue to deliver and build on the benefits of this important work.

“While there are challenges before the sector, these are not insurmountable. Working with communities and industry we can navigate these and deliver upon the next iteration of Australia’s rich energy heritage,” he said.

Mr Churchill replaces outgoing CPIO Arron Wood who has been in the role for the last four years and has recently been appointed Chief Executive Officer of Yurringa Energy, a specialist first nations energy retailer.

“The Board thanks Arron for his hard work and dedication to the Clean Energy Council over the last four years. His contributions towards accelerating the industry’s future will continue to be realised,” Mr Rolfe said.
