Evnex bargain-hunts for lowest charging prices with Amber integration

The alliance enables electric vehicle (EV) owners to automatically charge when electricity prices are at their lowest – and avoid price spikes – using live wholesale energy data.

Available within the Evnex app, this latest update allows Amber account holders to connect their energy plan and set charging preferences aligned with real-time, wholesale electricity rates.

This empowers EV drivers to take full advantage of Australia’s dynamic electricity market, without needing to manually monitor the best time to charge.

“At Evnex, our vision is a future where every journey is powered by clean, affordable energy,” said Tom Rose, Product Owner at Evnex.

“Truly smart charging means responding to external conditions. While our solar diversion feature already adapts to changing solar generation, this new integration helps drivers buying electricity at wholesale prices to minimise EV charging costs with no extra effort.”

The Evnex app now pulls live Amber pricing data, with users able to define upper and lower price thresholds where charging should automatically occur.

With increasing numbers of Australians adopting solar and opting into wholesale electricity plans, Evnex’s new functionality gives even more control back to the driver.

While Amber has developed native integrations for Tesla vehicles, the Evnex app now makes dynamic pricing accessible to any EV owner, regardless of car make or model – a significant leap in making cost-efficient charging more widely available.

Evnex CEO Ed Harvey says the update is another step toward helping EV drivers save money while supporting a cleaner grid.

“This integration gives Australian EV owners more flexibility and greater control. It reflects our commitment to building a smarter, more sustainable charging ecosystem.”

How it works:

  • Connect your account: In the Evnex app, navigate to Charging Settings and select Connect to Amber
  • Set your prices: Define the price range at which your car should charge
  • Reap the rewards: Your charger will now automatically start or stop based on real-time electricity prices

The feature is now live and available to all Evnex users with an Amber account. For further information visit https://www.evnex.com/au/energy/amber.
