Community organisations and not-for-profit groups focused on delivering environmental initiatives are encouraged to apply for new funding from Transgrid to support their important work.
The $50,000 (USD 35,375) funding round will support environmental sustainability outcomes close to Transgrid’s regional centres at Eastern Creek, Newcastle, Tamworth, Orange and surrounding regions.
Launched as part of Transgrid’s inaugural Sustainability Month, the grants are part of the transmission network’s wider efforts to deliver a clean energy transition that balances the needs of electricity consumers, local communities, the environment and climate.
Community groups, service providers, registered charities, and other not-for-profit organisations can now apply for grants of up to $5,000 under the Environmental Sustainability Community Partnerships Program (ESCPP).
The new funding initiative builds on Transgrid’s wider Community Partnerships Program (CPP), which has awarded more than $1.3 million to more than 315 organisations over the past three years including Indigenous groups, youth organisations, emergency services, and aged care and social welfare providers.
Transgrid General Manager of Strategic Advocacy, Government and Legacy Nicole Ryan said the grants will enable grass-roots sustainability projects and initiatives to be undertaken to address local environmental issues as well as leave an important social legacy for communities.
“These community and not-for-profit groups are the lifeblood of local communities, making a real and meaningful difference to local environments through projects and initiatives caring for our precious natural environment,” Ms Ryan said.
“As we focus on managing and mitigating our impacts on the environment, Transgrid is delighted to offer funding to enhance environmental sustainability outcomes in communities where our regional centres are located.
“These grants will give the opportunity for more communities to play an active part in the energy
transition and ensure we protect and sustain our valuable flora, fauna and waterways.”
