In response, ASL is now undertaking analysis to determine the timing, size and characteristics of the need, which will be set out in the 2026 Firming Infrastructure Investment Objective (IIO) report.
The Firming IIO is expected to be published around August 2026, with a tender likely to open in Q4 2026 or Q1 2027. This tender will be run significantly in advance of the forecast shortfall to ensure all projects, including those with longer lead times are able to prepare and participate.
This new firming tender is separate to NSW Roadmap Tender 7 which is seeking 500MW of firm capacity that can be operational by the summer of 2027-28. There is no impact to this tender, which is currently underway and remains on track to be completed by May 2026.
