VRET Auction: 928MW to Be Built

Victoria has a renewable energy target of 40% by 2025.

Building towards this target, the Victorian government called for bids for 650MW of new renewable energy via a reverse auction.

After being bowled over by fantastic quality bids, at record low prices, the Victorian government has now accepted bids totalling 928MW.

As a result, 45% more large-scale renewable energy projects will be built via this auction.

Specifically, three new wind farms (673.5 MW) and three new solar farms (254.6MW) have been accepted.

These projects will attract more than $1bn in investment to regional Victoria, and create more than 900 jobs.

10,000 Solar Battery Subsidy Scheme

A re-elected Andrew’s government will provide a 50% subsidy for households who already have solar and want to install a battery.

Households will save 50% (up to a cap of $4,838) on the cost of a retrofit battery unit.

The cap will taper down to $3,714 in 2026 as battery prices come down.

Announcements Welcomed

While renewable energy policy is being attacked by the federal government, it is fantastic to see the Victorian Government getting on with building a smart energy future.

Renewable energy is quick to build, is the cheapest form of new generation, creates jobs and investment and pushes prices down for all consumers.

The Smart Energy Council congratulates the Andrews Government on its extraordinary smart energy leadership.
