Installed volume/year LGC marked sub 20 MW
Although the headline utility-scale figures show a major drop off, it was always going to be impossible to fill the gap left by Australia’s largest PV power plants Nyngan (102 MW), Broken Hill (53 MW) and Moree (70 MW) projects, which came online in 2015, but were five years in the making and heavily subsidized by the Australian Federal Government.
However, if systems larger than 20 MW are excluded (just one – Baracaldine – was above this threshold in 2016), there was actually significant growth. A record volume of systems in the 5-20 MW range was installed: Mugga Lane (13 MW) and Williamsdale (11 MW) in the Australian Capital Territory, and the 10.6 MW Degrussa Solar Project providing off grid power to a copper mine in Western Australia. On top of this, every other size category above 100 kW saw growth in 2016.
