Storage projects big and small
Australia has become a global hotspot for battery sales. In 2016 several international companies, including Tesla, staged global launches for energy storage products in Australia. Sunwiz’s Battery Market 2017 report shows that over 5% of new PV systems installed in 2016 included energy storage. It’s fair to say that 2016 exceeded the expectations of many in the industry, and set the stage for some stellar market growth in 2017. It wasn’t all in residential installations though – the chart shows a record 11 MWh of major projects installed in 2016, highlights include providing 50% of Nauiyu Aboriginal Community’s annual electricity from solar+storage, A 2 MWh battery supporting the regional grid in Buninyong, Victoria, a successful community project at Alkimos Beach in Western Australia and the previously mentioned Degrussa Solar Project, which features a 6 MW lithium-ion storage facility.
