The International Energy Agency has forecast the rollout of rooftop solar in Australia will drop off “faster than anticipated” with increasing grid integration challenges and saturation of the power system contributing to a revision of expectations for renewable energy growth in the country.

Energy storage project bids now sought for Victoria and South Australia

The Capacity Investment Scheme South Australia-Victoria tender is now open for bids. Renewable energy storage projects must be located in either of the states and have a minimum storage duration of two hours and a minimum size of 30 MW.

$220 million bailout so WA coal mine can continue to mid-2026

The Western Australian government has just allocated $220 million to support Griffin coal mine, so operations may continue until June 2026. The funding was announced by Premier Roger Cook and the Minister for Energy, Mines and Petroleum Bill Johnston, who earlier announced he is stepping down from cabinet last week.

Sunshine Hydro signs 20% First Nations equity deal on flagship Queensland project

Sunshine Hydro and project partner Energy Estate have signed an agreement to give First Nations stakeholders a 20% equity option in the companies’ Djandori Gung-i Superhybrid project at Miriam Vale, Queensland. The project proposes to deliver up to 600 MW of pumped hydro capacity and up to 300 MW of hydrogen electrolysers.

Sparc selects Adelaide site to pilot photocatalytic hydrogen production following CSIRO demo

Having completed first prototype testing outside the lab for its green hydrogen photocatalytic water splitting technology, joint venture company Sparc Hydrogen has been working on its pilot plant study, selecting a site “proximal to Adelaide.”

$1.4 billion Tasmanian green methanol project selects technology partners

Australian hydrogen project developer Abel Energy has selected UK firm Johnson Matthey and US company SunGas Renewables in the design of its flagship green hydrogen and methanol project at Bell Bay in northern Tasmania.
