AER commences consultation on development of Generator notice of closure exemption guideline

From 1 September 2019, generators will be required to provide at least three years’ advance notice of their intention to close, unless we grant exemption. We are required to publish guidelines for how we intend to handle applications for exemption, and what information applicants will be required to submit.

We published an issues paper today that seeks stakeholder comment on key issues, such as: the information an applicant should provide, our procedure for handling applications, and the factors and criteria that may influence our consideration of applications for exemption.

Invitation for submissions

We invite interested stakeholders to make written submissions in response to the specific questions or issues raised in this paper, or any other matter relevant to the development of the exemption guideline, by the close of business 5 April 2019.

We prefer that all submissions be publicly available to facilitate an informed and transparent consultative process. Submissions will be treated as public documents and posted on our website unless prior arrangements are made with us to treat the submission, or portions of it, as confidential. Those wishing to submit confidential information are requested to clearly identify the information that is the subject of the confidentiality claim, and provide a non-confidential versions of the submission.
