UCS Group, Australia’s leading provider of sustainable connected communities, has partnered with Schneider Electric to deliver an intelligent microgrid solution that is transforming how Australians generate, consume, and manage energy.
The collaboration combines UCS Group’s engineering and delivery expertise with Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxure™ Microgrid Flex, an end-to-end, validated power and energy management system that integrates seamlessly with battery storage.
By incorporating EcoStruxure Microgrid Advisor, the system can run independently or alongside the main grid and works locally. Its smart controller tracks energy demand and supply in real time, automatically switching between solar, battery, and – only when needed – grid power.
Designed to adapt to the diverse needs and operating conditions of Australian businesses, communities and homes, the UCS Group and Schneider Electric microgrid solution offers a flexible, scalable model for clean energy adoption.
Its AI capabilities leverage real-time market data to anticipate demand, optimise consumption, and automate energy management. By “doing the thinking” for customers, the system provides reliable and efficient outcomes that simplify energy use, lower costs, and enable long-term resilience.
Stephen Ellich, CEO at UCS, said: “Our collaboration with Schneider Electric is redefining what’s possible for clean energy in Australia.”
“By combining our engineering design and implementation expertise with Schneider’s advanced microgrid technology, we are enabling businesses and communities to take control of their energy use, reduce costs, and contribute to a cleaner, more resilient future.”
Early deployments by UCS Group have already demonstrated transformative results.
UCS Group has cut its own electricity costs by more than 60%, have the capability to run on 100% solar, and improved energy stability while reducing emissions.
These results provide a strong foundation for delivering similar benefits for organisations, and communities across the country. Importantly, the solution also enables coordinated management of EV charging, a capability that is already supporting UCS’s own fleet electrification goals and can be applied more broadly to other businesses in future.
Building on this success, UCS and Schneider Electric are set to roll out multiple projects across Australia, each designed to move closer to the goal of 100% green-sourced energy.
These projects are delivering not only financial savings but also tangible environmental benefits by reducing reliance on fossil fuels and strengthening the stability of local energy networks.
Louise Monger, Vice President Digital Energy at Schneider Electric, said: “UCS Group is showing what’s possible with intelligent microgrids, achieving major cost savings and fully utilising renewable energy.”
“By working together, we’ve delivered a solution that makes reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy a reality today, and creates a model that can be scaled to accelerate Australia’s clean energy transition.”
