Central Queensland Power (CQP) is developing the Wooderson Solar Farm, and the endorsement reflects a collaborative process between CQP, Council and the local community to ensure the long-term benefits of the project are shared locally and aligned with regional priorities.

The Community Benefit Agreement has been informed by the project’s Social Impact Assessment and extensive community engagement undertaken during the development phase.

It sets out a clear framework for how community benefits will be delivered over the life of the project, including the establishment of a dedicated Community Benefit Sharing Program.

The project proponent will manage the Community Benefit Sharing Program, which will deliver grants, education partnerships and local legacy investments for the Calliope Valley community near the project during construction and operations.

The endorsement is a strong early example of Queensland’s Community Benefit Framework in action, demonstrating how renewable energy projects can work collaboratively with local governments and communities to deliver shared value alongside the transition to clean energy.

The executed CBA enables the project to progress to lodgement of development applications and seek planning approval.

“We welcome Gladstone Regional Council’s endorsement of the Wooderson Solar Farm Community Benefit Agreement. This agreement reflects what we heard through our engagement with the local community and Council, and our commitment to ensuring the benefits of the project are shared locally and deliver lasting value for the Gladstone region.” Mike Whitbread, Director of Development, Central Queensland Power.
