Smart Energy Council: We urgently need your voice

Solar, Energy Storage and Related Services: Provider Code of Conduct (SESRS)

The initial target to get 50 companies to provide in-principle support for the SESRS Code has been reached. The legal structure and independent ‘whole of industry’ Board is being set up right now.

As soon as a State Government refers to the code, it will come into force.

Thank you to those who have pledged support. If you have not yet pledged support, please do so by e-mailing admin@sesrs.org.au

We will keep you posted on progress. But there is a major development you need to know about….

Your Urgent Action Needed

Separate to the CEC Solar Retailers Code and the SESRS Code, a single whole of industry Code is being developed at the direction of State Governments.

This is a good development – but only if it results in a true industry wide code. A key decision is being made right now.

The CEC are pushing for the new code to be developed within the structure of the CEC, administrated by the CEC, with revenue from the code going to the CEC.

We strongly oppose this.

Any code must:

– Be administered by a separate entity, controlled by the entire industry

– Be representative – one body; one board seat (with SEIA, Solar Cutters and others having a voice)

– Be administered by a competitive process – not just handed to the CEC

– Be run on a cost recovery basis only, and not create a surplus

– Ensure costs and financial transactions are publicly transparent

Act Today

The CEC is telling state governments the only people who disagree with the CEC centric model are the Smart Energy Council! Really?

If we don’t act now, the CEC will once again lock itself in – the never-ending monopoly.

The Smart Energy Council will support a genuine industry wide Code of Conduct. In the mean time the SESRS is vital – we cannot wait up to a year or more for a single code.
