Victoria’s largest urban solar farm has been officially switched on at La Trobe University’s Melbourne campus, marking a major milestone in the university’s ambition to achieve carbon neutrality by 2029.
La Trobe University plans to build what it says will be the largest urban solar farm in Victoria, with about 4,300 solar panels to be installed at its Bundoora campus in Melbourne’s north as part of the university’s goal to achieve ‘net zero’ carbon emissions by 2029.
With campuses throughout Victoria, La Trobe University this month further reduced its regional campus emissions by installing solar panels over more than 200 car-parking spaces — another milestone in its commitment to achieve net-zero by 2022!
Flinders University in Adelaide has announced its campuses and facilities are now officially 100% powered by renewable energy from campus-based solar arrays and a local wind farm.
La Trobe University is not messing around when it comes to its 2029 ‘net zero’ ambitions. The university, which installed 7,500 solar panels at its Bundoora campus last year, has this month seen the completion of its new sports stadium which will be entirely powered by rooftop solar.
La Trobe University is well on its way to achieving its ‘net zero’ carbon emissions by 2029 goal thanks to 7,500 solar panels installed by Solgen Energy Group at its Bundoora campus in Melbourne’s north. VIC Energy Minister Lily D’Ambrosio said the feat demonstrated what could be achieved with leadership, clear targets, and renewable energy.
La Trobe University has committed itself to a goal of Net Zero emissions by 2029 with a new $75 million initiative. Though La Trobe will not be Australia’s first clean energy university, its project might just be the most ambitious.
