Global electric car fleet may reach 250 million by 2030

The International Energy Agency says more than 2 million electric vehicles hit the road last year, to take the total to more than 5 million. The agency has stressed the importance of public policy, charging infrastructure and a fall in costs for continued EV uptake, and says up to 43 million EVs could be sold in 2030.

Electric vehicles help slash payback periods for residential PV

In both cases, system owners are likely to reduce their payback period by significant margins as increased self-consumption can offset the incremental phase out of government incentives.

Senec seeks to expand reach in Australia with new investor on board

The Australian arm of German energy storage provider Senec has welcomed Mark Keogh as a shareholder and member of the board of directors. Keogh is the founder and CEO of UON, a WA-based provider of turnkey power, air and water solutions to the mining and resources industry.

Sonnen starts shipping batteries made in South Australia to New Zealand

The German energy storage provider has begun shipping batteries produced in the former Holden factory in Adelaide’s north to New Zealand. Sonnen batteries will be available exclusively through the manufacturer’s local partner, Taspac Energy.

Disability Accommodation deploys solar+storage for backup power

In what is being claimed to be an Australian first, Natural Solar has installed a solar PV and storage system to Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) in South Australia, with an innovative approach to providing backup power supply. Natural Solar reports that the battery systems retain 20% charge at all times to ensure backup power supply. 

Labor resi battery subsidy to push paybacks below 10 years

The Smart Energy Council has sketched out a scenario that demonstrates that Federal Labor’s plan to provide $2000 rebates for residential battery storage units, assuming they have rooftop PV installed, will save households between 60-80% on their power bill. In all Australian states, SEC finds that battery paybacks under the subsidy will fall to 3.5–10 years. 

Labor to connect 4,000 schools into VPPs in $1 billion solar program

Federal Labor has pledged to roll out solar PV and batteries at schools across Australia and create virtual power plants supporting up to 365 MW of capacity.
